The HSE connection to Illness

There are physical consequences to being a highly sensitive empath.  Research indicates we are more likely to experience chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, allergies, rheumatoid arthritis, Lupus, other autoimmune disorders, ADD, ADHD and even Lyme disease.

Personally, I have been diagnosed with chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and lymes disease.  As a child I was frequently ill with strep throat and tonsillitis.  Fortunately, none of these currently affect my health but it can be pretty discouraging to have to deal with chronic illness or pain.

Sometimes we make it worse by beating ourselves up because we are sick.  As a child I believed being sick was not okay.  It was some kind of weakness.  I don’t know that anyone actually said this to me but I interpreted the messages as being “less than”.

As adults we can interpret spiritual concepts such as “we create our own reality” and “we can heal ourselves” to mean if we were more normal, more spiritual, more conscious, we wouldn’t be sick.  As Lissa Rankin, author of Mind Over Medicine so aptly explains in her blog , being ill is not your fault.

There is a real connection between illness and being a Highly Sensitive Empath.  It has to do with a body that is wired sensitively and as such can “overreact” to outside stimulus.  This sets up biological stress reactions that weaken the body and immune system.

Here’s how I like to think about it.

We are not Fords or Chevys.

We are Porsches and Ferraris.

Yes, we require special fuel and expensive maintenance.

Yes, we may go “out of sync” and require more tune-ups than Fords or Chevys.

Yes, we require special “handling”.

But we are PERFORMANCE vehicles.

We are designed to do what Fords and Chevys can’t easily do.

We can sense feelings and attitudes of people around us.

We can hear messages from animals and Spirits.

We are deeply connected to our life purpose.

And we have great compassion for others.

Don’t get me wrong.  We need Fords and Chevys.  (I love my actual Ford Escape, Ruby Pearl).  Diversity balances our world.

Just the same, our owner’s manual is a little different.

The Highly Sensitive Empath Owner’s Manual (this is just a sample)

Take pride in your brand.  Honor all of who you are.  Your soul chose to come into the physical body wired for sensitivity, artistry, compassion and spiritual connection.

Recharge your batteries frequently.  Take naps, alone time, whatever you need to do to disconnect from the outside world and allow yourself to replenish your energy.  For a great way to do this, download my free Energy Mastery meditation (it’s on the right hand side of the page).

Only use premium fuel.  Whole organic and natural foods, clean pure water, humanely raised animals, pure supplements and herbs.

Have all work done by specially trained mechanics.  Find health practitioners and energy workers who will appreciate your sensitivity and treat you with kindness and respect.

Special handling required at high speeds.  When life is speeding past you, ground yourself by staying close to the earth and hugging the curves.

You are built to handle curves at high speed…enjoy the ride.
