{"id":110,"date":"2011-01-18T08:47:30","date_gmt":"2011-01-18T08:47:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wendywolfe.wordpress.com\/?p=110"},"modified":"2011-01-18T08:47:30","modified_gmt":"2011-01-18T08:47:30","slug":"for-lucy-the-best-dog-of-her-kind-in-the-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wendywolfe.com\/?p=110","title":{"rendered":"For Lucy, the best dog of her kind in the World"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_112\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-112\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/wendywolfe.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/01\/lucy-email.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-112\" title=\"Lucy email\" src=\"http:\/\/wendywolfe.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/01\/lucy-email.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-112\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lucy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>With a saddened heart I&#8217;m sharing with you that we lost our beautiful Lucy yesterday.\u00a0 She crossed over the rainbow bridge about 6 pm with our help.\u00a0 She had a seizure about 3:30 that ended after about 10 minutes and then another that wouldn&#8217;t end, even with all the drugs the doctors gave her.\u00a0\u00a0 Although she had experienced a few seizures in the last four months, we hadn&#8217;t expected this.\u00a0 You never know what the day will bring.<\/p>\n<p>Lucy was Becky&#8217;s dog and I met her when I moved up here 8 years ago.\u00a0 She was the kind of dog you dream of; sweet, gentle, fun and always listened to what we asked.\u00a0 Becky had adopted her from the humane society so we never knew exactly how old she was but we estimate she was now about 16.\u00a0\u00a0 We guessed she was a collie\/shepherd mix of some sort.\u00a0 She sure was beautiful.<\/p>\n<p>She had her run of our 10 acres and about another 30 of two other neighbors.\u00a0 They loved her too.\u00a0 She loved helping with chores and just the sight of us going to the basement got her excited because she knew that was where the chore clothes were.\u00a0 After chores, Becky would play the glove game with her where she would let Lucy have one of her gloves in a keep away game.<\/p>\n<p>She was my early door bell which when you live on a long driveway out in the country is a very handy thing.\u00a0 I always knew when the UPS man was here, the LP gas guy or when a client had arrived.\u00a0 I was never surprised by anyone as Lucy always greeted them first.\u00a0 And she was a good girl about it.\u00a0 She would bark at them but would back off as soon as I asked her to.\u00a0 She especially liked the UPS guy as he always had treats for her.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_113\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-113\" style=\"width: 256px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/wendywolfe.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/01\/lucy-web.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-113\" title=\"Lucy web\" src=\"http:\/\/wendywolfe.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/01\/lucy-web.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"256\" height=\"192\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-113\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lucy watching over her farm<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>She was very easy to communicate with.\u00a0 Occasionally she would be out after dark and Becky would be concerned about her.\u00a0 She would ask me to tell her to come home (telepathically) and she always showed up a few minutes later.\u00a0 When I first came here she loved to chase the deer.\u00a0 But when I asked her not to, she stopped.\u00a0 Well as best she could.\u00a0 Occasionally she might still chase one a little, after all it was her instinct so it was hard to fault her when I knew she was trying so hard.<\/p>\n<p>Many of my animal communication students discovered they could communicate with a dog through Lucy.\u00a0 She was always excited to be a part of the class and help out.\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure she will still want to help now from Spirit.<\/p>\n<p>She earned her &#8220;Therapy Dog&#8221; certificate with me in 2005.\u00a0 She passed with flying colors and I never did any training with her.\u00a0 She just knew what she needed to do.\u00a0 We made weekly trips to Portage County Nursing Home and the King Veterans home.\u00a0 She brought smiles to so many people.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She was our &#8220;big&#8221; dog and was very patient with the sometimes obnoxious little dogs.\u00a0 She was so balanced and so good with them.
