{"id":198,"date":"2011-05-04T15:29:32","date_gmt":"2011-05-04T15:29:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wendywolfe.wordpress.com\/?p=198"},"modified":"2011-05-04T15:29:32","modified_gmt":"2011-05-04T15:29:32","slug":"lessons-from-the-baby-bunnies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wendywolfe.com\/?p=198","title":{"rendered":"Lessons from the Baby Bunnies"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_99\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-99\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/wendywolfe.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/12\/red-web.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-99\" title=\"Red web\" src=\"http:\/\/wendywolfe.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/12\/red-web.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-99\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Red<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>First, a disclaimer.\u00a0 Some might find this disturbing.\u00a0 I hope you can get past that and hear what the message is.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday at about 5 am I got up with the dogs to let them out as I usually do each morning.\u00a0 King just can\u2019t seem to wait much longer so I accommodate his little bladder even though it is long before I want to get up.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Shortly after they went into the yard I noticed Hannah had picked something up in her mouth.\u00a0 I shouted, \u201cHannah, drop it\u201d and she did.\u00a0 Red, the cat has left gifts from time to time out in the dog yard though he had stopped for many months now at my request.\u00a0 In my bare feet I went out into the yard to find a very young rabbit that was dead.\u00a0 Just as I picked up the little guy, Red hopped over the fence with another baby rabbit in his mouth and dropped it at my feet.\u00a0 I picked this one up and realized he was still alive.\u00a0 Needless to say, I was very upset.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I went back into the house and called to Becky to help me.\u00a0 She got the dogs in and we discussed what to do with the little injured rabbit.\u00a0 We both knew the shock alone would probably kill him.\u00a0 I did some energy work for him, if only to ease his transition.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Many attempts previously in both our lives had taught us that it is often difficult to save these little ones.\u00a0 Still, we decided to make a warm nest for him.\u00a0 There weren\u2019t any visual signs of severe damage but he was very weak.\u00a0 Becky took him to the barn and tried to get him to take a little almond milk (it was what we had).\u00a0 No luck.\u00a0 She wrapped him in a couple of towels and placed him in a soft bed in the heated utility room.\u00a0 I checked on him a couple of times that morning and did more energy work.\u00a0 By afternoon, he had passed.<\/p>\n<p>Later that morning I had a talk with Red.\u00a0 Part of me was angry but I also knew he was just doing what cats do.\u00a0\u00a0 And he was bringing his bounty to share with his dogs.\u00a0 I reminded him that while I knew this was all natural for him and even part of his job on this planet, I did not want him bringing these treats to the dogs.\u00a0 \u201cRed, they get plenty of food here in the house, you don\u2019t have to provide for them.\u00a0 They might even get sick from some of the treats you bring them\u2026they don\u2019t have as strong a constitution as you do.\u00a0 Please, leave the baby bunnies in their nests;
