This was a decision I didn’t take lightly. I love trees. It’s part of why I purchased this home. Unfortunately some of the trees were so close to the house they were ruining the roof, siding and other outside structures.

Before I made the decision I checked in with the trees and asked their permission. Then before the tree cutters came I went to each one and thanked them (yep, I hugged the trees). I let the birds and squirrels know too. This might seem silly to some but to a sensitive empath it makes perfect sense.

There was a time when I wouldn’t have given it a second thought.

I was too tough for such nonsense.

Sensitive empaths can become overwhelmed energetically and emotionally. For some, it’s too much and they find a way to turn it off. I was about twelve years old when I shut down completely. There were times before when I would shut down temporarily and then open up again. Shutting down was the only way I knew to survive and it served me for many years.

There were advantages to shutting down. Closing myself off from my true experience allowed me to function more easily in the world…for awhile.

When you shut down, it’s not that you aren’t still bombarded with other’s energy it’s just that you’ve figured out how to push the feelings way down inside.

You become a reservoir that continues to fill up until… the dam breaks.

And when it does the resulting floods can drown you…or you learn to swim.

For me the dam broke in my early thirties. Keeping my feelings shoved down all those years required alcohol, drugs, food and other distractions. I always managed to stop short of addiction or seriously harming myself but it was by no means a healthy lifestyle. I floundered in the water for several years before I began to figure things out. It wasn’t pretty.

When I began to see the gifts in my sensitivity everything changed.

The odd feelings that came out of nowhere started to make sense.

I could hear the animals again.

I could help them because I understood what they needed.

Even though my intuitive abilities were just beginning to come back, my world shifted. The sense of joy and gratitude my Soul felt as I accepted my sensitivity encouraged me to continue allowing the sensations even though they were difficult at times. This new sense of feeling and understanding wasn’t without its drawbacks… and I knew I could never stuff it down again.

A very wise woman once told me, once the Genie is out of the bottle, you can’t put her back in again.

Once you know what you know, you can’t un-know it.

As I began to pay attention to what I sensed, I became aware of the synchronicities that were supporting me. Helpful people magically appeared. Circumstances favored my desires and path. The more I paid attention to the signs, the more signs I was given.

When I began teaching animal communication and energy mastery I found other women who like me had stuffed their sensitivity down. They appear tough on the exterior, but the first time they experience a deep heart connection with an animal the walls come down and the tears flow. For some, it takes awhile before they are ready to acknowledge their empathic nature. They’ve done such a good job of hiding it from themselves it’s hard to see.

I went from being a Tough Sensitive to an Empowered Sensitive.

Acknowledging my sensitivity made a huge difference in the quality of my life. I no longer needed to numb myself or shut myself off from others. And the most surprising thing that happened? My heart energy began to expand. It became easier to stay in a place of content and love.

All because I honored and allowed my sensitivity.

If you suspect you might also be a Tough Sensitive and want to shift to an Empowered Sensitive… here are the key steps.

Acknowledge and honor your sensitivity…it’s a strength not a weakness.

Learn your energy patterns and shift as necessary so you can keep from taking on other’s “stuff”.

Recognize when you are about to “shut down” again and choose differently or do so consciously.

Embrace the gifts you’ve been given as part of your sensitivity.

Tune in and listen to the whispers of your Soul to bring more joy and purpose into your life.

Whether you’ve shut down your sensitivity or been completely aware of it forever, I’m here to support you in managing your sensitivity and embracing your gifts. It’s what I do. Right now I have 3 openings in my three month one-on-one Illumination Program (nothing more until next year). Whether you’re openly sensitive or toughened, the program is designed to show you how to turn on your light and Illuminate the world as an Empowered Sensitive Empath. If you think you’re ready, I’d love to talk with you. You can schedule a no-cost conversation with me to see if it’s a good fit. Let’s Talk

This past week I had several large pines cut down next to my house.
