Love, Life Lessons, and a Mare named Mariah

It was the early summer of 2001 when I first met her.  I had gone with a couple of friends north to a horsey B&B of sorts.  We had a quest house to ourselves and trails nearby to ride our horses.  Smokey was there with me along with his BFF Nails. The guest house was located at an operating ranch with several horses and cattle.  On our first day there we noticed the "babies".  Two mares with foals by their sides.  We all went to meet them.  It never occured to me that this meeting would … [Read more...]

Divinely Directed

A client was sharing with me the other day that her life has taken on a new purpose, a new direction as a result of her horses.  Because her gelding has had digestive issues she was guided to learn all she could about natural care and feeding for horses.  Then her mare developed a hindend lameness whose recovery perplexed the vets.  She has sought out conventional and alternative means to help this horse and in the end, learned of her own gifts to help with massage, energy work and more.   She … [Read more...]

That Soul Connection

Why is it we are so drawn to certain animals in our lives?  I’m sure every one of you can relate to having experienced (and maybe currently so) a deep connection with one of your companion animals.  A connection so deep, with so much love that it may even confuse you.  Maybe you have had this connection with more than one.  For me, Tiger, now Doc, has been one of those connections (for more on this story, click here).  From the first day I picked up Tiger and he clung to me saying “please don’t … [Read more...]

For Lucy, the best dog of her kind in the World

With a saddened heart I'm sharing with you that we lost our beautiful Lucy yesterday.  She crossed over the rainbow bridge about 6 pm with our help.  She had a seizure about 3:30 that ended after about 10 minutes and then another that wouldn't end, even with all the drugs the doctors gave her.   Although she had experienced a few seizures in the last four months, we hadn't expected this.  You never know what the day will bring. Lucy was Becky's dog and I met her when I moved up here 8 years … [Read more...]

Bubbles of Wishes off to the Heavens

My New Year's Eve involved bubbles...but not of the alcoholic kind.  They were part of an evening of ritual that began last year with Becky and a few of our dearest friends.  To begin with, we each wanted to let go of those things that no longer served us.  I thought of how often I beat myself with my own "stick".   You know, when you tell yourself those self-deprecating things you would never say to a friend?  Somehow those old tapes still run through your head.  All of those "I'm not good … [Read more...]
